Hello All,
Welcome again to POSE and the Open Access unit!
We are looking forward to joining you at the POSE Kick-Off Session tomorrow, May 4 at 11am. The session will provide an opportunity to meet some of your fellow participants and provide an overview of the POSE program structure as well as definitions and values of open scholarship.
If you haven’t already done so, please do register for the kick-off session, doing so helps us with our planning. You can register here: https://events.ctlt.ubc.ca/events/pose-2023-kick-off/
In this month’s Open Access Unit, we’ll be exploring the current economics of publishing and its impacts on academia; authors’ rights and intellectual property and the connection to publisher agreements and negotiations; and models for open access, including the challenges and opportunities it affords. The Open Access Unit provides many opportunities to “Dig Deeper” into specific topics and includes many hyperlinks to additional resources. Please note that this additional reading is optional. As learners, you should feel comfortable following your interests and capacity. There is no expectation that you will read all of the additional content, but we hope that you will walk away from POSE with access to a robust set of resources that you can engage with and reference in the future.
We’re looking forward to the coming weeks and all of your thoughtful contributions to our collective learning. Don’t hesitate to leave a comment in the open access discussion thread if you have any questions as you work through the content.
Best,
The Pose Facilitation Team
