Hello POSE participants,
We can’t believe how quickly the summer is flying by! We’re now over halfway through POSE and we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge your progress.
On June 1st, we kicked off the Open Research unit, which focuses on open workflows, open software, and open data. This unit covers complex material related to open research practices, which may be new or unfamiliar to some participants. We encourage you to take your time exploring the content at your own pace, revisit key concepts as needed, and engage with the activities to deepen your understanding.
Please also join us at the following POSE synchronous sessions to content with open research practitioners and your fellow POSE participants:
- Tomorrow, June 17 at 10am: Ben Motz, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University, will lead a session on reproducibility in education research. Topics will include the Many Classes project, pre-registration, and open research practices. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so!
- Monday, June 23 at 10am: We’ll be hosting a discussion on the impact of generative AI (GenAI) on critical thinking. This session will be based on the article: The Impact of Generative AI on Critical Thinking: Self-Reported Reductions in Cognitive Effort and Confidence Effects From a Survey of Knowledge Workers and we’ll be discussing it in breakout groups. Please read the article in advance—focus on the research questions and the summary of the results, rather than the statistical models if those are outside your comfort zone. As you read, consider the following:
- What in the article resonated with you? What differed from your own experiences?
- How have the authors modeled an open workflow?
Looking Ahead
If you haven’t had a chance to dive into the Open Research unit content and activities yet, now is a great time to get started! We’d also love to read your thoughts on the shared reflection activity. We’re excited to continue learning with you!
The POSE program is moving quickly, and the final unit—Open Education—is just around the corner.
Warmly,
The POSE Facilitation Team
