Hello POSE participants!
We hope your July is going well. We are now half-way through the Open Education unit, which focuses on how the use of open copyright licenses and internet technologies have the potential to reduce student costs and lower access barriers to education by making it more distributed, equitable, and open. It takes a deep dive into Creative Commons licenses and open educational resources, exploring how open education can be applied to pedagogy, the practice of teaching and learning.
If you haven’t had a chance yet, please be sure to explore the Activity Bank! Please also join us at the following POSE synchronous sessions to connect with your fellow POSE participants and facilitators:
- Wednesday, July 16 at 12:00pm to 1:30pm: join us for an interactive online workshop where we will explore the challenges, contradictions, and opportunities at the intersection of GenAI and OER. In this session we will discuss the potential of AI in generating dynamic content, including interactive textbooks, and its potential in developing open educational resources and practices. We will also engage in discussions about the legal and ethical considerations of both AI and open education including copyright, privacy, and open licensing. If you haven’t registered yet, please do!
- Wednesday, July 30 at 12:30pm we’ll be hosting a discussion session where we invite you to reflect on your personal vision for the future of open education in higher education. Before the session, we ask that you read the following two articles: Paul Keller and Alek Tarkowski’s The Paradox of Open and Copyright, Licensing, and Open Source AI by Anne-Marie Scott. At this session, we’ll also be wrapping up the POSE program and discussing how to complete the program and next steps.
The POSE Program is flying by! All of the units will stay open for completion until the end of the course and we encourage those of you who have not completed the previous units to jump back in and work through them. We’re looking forward to continuing the POSE journey and discussing different aspects of open scholarship with you.
Sincerely,
The POSE Facilitation Team
